Digitalized bees against insect extinction
With the help of AI, three young people and their team with their Karlsruhe-based start-up apic.ai (external link) are fighting the extinction of insects. As confessing bee friends we from Clausmark have decided to support apic.at in their project.
The bee is the third most important useful animal in Germany
The creation of value by the bee is about 265 billion euros per year worldwide. With estimated 20,000 different species worldwide, bees not only protect our ecosystem but are also an essential part of the economy. But monocultures, land sealing and, for example, insecticides pose a major challenge for all insects. Apic.ai is therefore pursuing the goal of saving bees and thereby preserving biological diversity.

It is difficult to say what harms the bees without analysis
In order to find out the causes, a camera system is installed at the entrance of the beehives.
The camera records all incoming and outgoing bees and the registered pollen. An intelligent software then evaluates the data. By analysing the data beekeepers can for example track the food supply of the bees, receive information about the condition of their colony and can take any necessary steps to deal with the situation.
Clausmark is supporting apic.ai and has two camera systems in operation. The two beehives 2.0, which have been provided with two of these camera systems through our sponsorship, are located in Schuttertal in the Black Forest.
